Objective To analyze the glucose metabolism in patients with COVID-19.Methods The clinical data of 123 patients with suspected COVID-19 admitted to our hospital from January 17 to February 25,2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into the confirmed COVID-19 group(confirmed group)and the excluded COVID-19 group(excluded group).According to the COVID-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol(Trial version 7)released by the National Health Commission, the confirmed patients were divided into the mild group, the normal group, the severe group and the critical group. The blood glucose of patients after admission was collected for comparative analysis. Results In the confirmed group,27(36.99%)of the 73 patients had elevated blood glucose. In the excluded group,9(18.00%)of the 50 patients had elevated blood glucose.Only 1 of the 73 patients in the confirmed group had diabetes history and normal blood glucose control.Compared with the exclusion group, the blood glucose level in the confirmed group was significantly higher(P<0.05).The degree of elevated blood glucose in the severe group was significantly higher than that in the mild and normal group(P<0.05).One patient died. Conclusion The blood glucose level in patients with COVID-19 was significantly increased, and the coronavirus affected glucose metabolism in infected patients.
