及物性视角下《项脊轩志》两英译本之比较

A Comparison of Two English Versions of Xiangjixuan Zhi from the Perspective of Transitivity

以归有光经典散文《项脊轩志》的两个英文译本为例,依据及物性系统理论,从小句的过程类别以及与之有关的参与者和环境成分这三个方面对两种译文进行分析,讨论不同及物性过程类型的选取以及参与者和环境成分的改变所导致的意义变化,从而评估翻译质量并进一步揭示系统功能语言学在散文翻译中的适用性。研究结果表明:杨宪益、戴乃迭的译文更加忠实原文,表达效果与原文保持一致。及物性理论不仅对散文的鉴赏和翻译起到一定的理论指导作用,而且也检验了系统功能语言学在散文语篇分析和翻译研究方面的适用性。

Taking Gui Youguang's classical prose Xiangjixuan Zhi and its two English translated texts as an example,the study analyzes the two translations from the three aspects,process,participant and circumstantial element based on the theory of transitivity.The study also discusses the change in meaning triggered by different choices of transitivity process,participant and circumstantial element to evaluate the translation quality and further reveal the applicability of systematic functional linguistics in prose translation.The result shows that the translation by Yang Xianyi and Dai Naidie is more faithful to the source text,and the expression effect is consistent with the original.Transitivity theory not only plays a theoretical guiding role in the appreciation and translation of prose,but also tests the applicability of systematic functional linguistics in the analysis and translation of prose.
