翻译四步骤在译者主体性中的体现——以《流浪地球》英译本为例

Embodiment of the Fourfold Translation Motion Theory in Translator’s Subjectivity—Take the English Version of The Wandering Earth as an Example

乔治·斯坦纳的翻译四步骤理论认为译者通过信任、侵入、吸收、补偿等四个步骤,根据其主体性需求,可以将原文的内容很好地传达给读者。以《流浪地球》为例,这部科幻小说的语言具有明显的中国文化特征,而且句子具有明显的科技性特征。因此,在翻译过程中借助乔治·斯坦纳的翻译四步骤,译者带着个人主观理解和文化背景知识进行“侵入”,使用直译法和意译法进行“吸收”,为达到文本之间的平衡使用加注法和增译法进行“补偿”,从而最大程度地再现原文的文化内涵,在译者和读者、源文与译文、源语文化和目的语文化之间架起一座沟通的桥梁。

George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion theory holds that the translator can successfully convey content of the source text to readers according to his/her subjective need through four steps,namely trust,invasion,appropriation and compensation.Take The Wandering Earth as an example,the language of this science fiction is characteristic of Chinese culture,and its sentences have obvious technological characteristics.Therefore,according to George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion theory,the translator can“invade”the source text through his/her understanding in the particular cultural background,“absorb”its the meaning through literal translation and free translation,and compensate the meaning through annotation and additional translation to balance the content of the source text and the translation version.In this way,the translator can best represent the cultural connotation of the source text and build a bridge between the translator and the reader,the source text and translation version,the source language culture and the target language culture.
