摘要
从身份构建的视角看杰琪·凯的小说《小号》,其主人公乔斯·穆迪是一位多种族和跨性别的爵士音乐家。穆迪女性的身体和男性的身份成为公众关注的焦点,传记家斯通斯因为商业利益的驱使,以叙事认同的方式在穆迪的传记中将其定义为荒淫堕落的性变态者。这种有悖伦理的身份界定对穆迪的家人造成严重的困扰。所幸穆迪以杂合性质的爵士乐为隐喻,为自己构建出流动的化成身份;并且想象出以情感为纽带的家庭谱系,将这种身份构建方式传递给其养子科尔曼。因此,《小号》是作者杰琪·凯于文化和社会规约以外进行身份构建的尝试和探索。
This paper studies the novel Trumpet by Jackie Kay from the perspective of identity construction and the hero of the novel Joss Moody is a multi-racial and cross-gender Jazz musician.His female body and male identity are the focus of the public attention.Driven by commercial interest,his biographer Jones constructs his narrative identity as a degenerate and corrupt sexual pervert.This identity construction violates the ethical stand of a biographer and causes great confusion in the Moody family.Fortunately Moody employs the metaphor of the hybrid Jazz music and constructs a fluid and becoming self-identity as an antidote.He then passes down this way of identity construction to his son Colman by way of the adoptive and emotional genealogy.Therefore,the novel can be considered as the author s attempt of identity construction outside the cultural and social codes.
