In Ian McEwan’s masterpiece The Children Act(2014), conflicts in dialogical scenarios not only construct its narrative climax but also reveal multidimensional connotations of communication represented by sense-sensibility crashes. By portraying conflict of sexual freedom and marital reason, McEwan manifests how institutional rationality without affection interferes with one’s life world. With the conflict of law and will in the court trial, McEwan implies adults’ hegemony of discourse and violence of rationalism in child-adult communication structure. As an extreme form of communication, death uncovers the fact that children as bearer of transitional experience can arouse and deepen the empathic ability of over-reasoned adults, which will promote the construction of interactive communication model "other-self-other". With presentation of different stages of communication between key characters, McEwan subtly illustrates non-blood triangle relationship built by the child-interloper and sexual partners, which provides an opportunity to probe deeply into the crisis of social communication and the tension of human nature.
