Waiting,Sacrifice and Rebellion——An Alysis of the Female Characters in the Vietnamese Novel The Sorrow of War

《战争哀歌》是越南当代最负盛名的长篇小说,它一反当时讴歌抗美英雄潮流,以普通退伍士兵阿坚对战争的回忆展开叙述,同时描绘了一系列与阿坚有着深深浅浅关系的女性人物。这些女性或为现代征妇,或为具有牺牲精神的女英雄,或为时代的逆行者,充满反战情绪和行动。本文试图对这些女性人物形象进行初步归纳分析,从女性角度揭示战争的残酷,探索文本背后作家深刻的人文关怀。

The Sorrow of War is the most widely known and read novel in contemporary Vietnamese literature.Significantly different than the trend of eulogizing anti-American heroes,this novel narrates the memories of war of Kien,an ordinary soldier and veteran.Simultaneously,The Sorry of War,depicts a series of female characters who have either a deep or a superficial relationship with Kien.These women are either modern conscripts,heroines driven by the spirit of sacrifice,or rebels of the times.They are full of antiwar emotions which motivate their actions.This paper attempts a preliminary analysis of these female characters,and how they expose the cruelty of war from the perspective of women,explore the writer's deeply humane compassion behind this novel.
