Purchasing Art and the Forming of Style:Huizhou Merchants and Hongren's Art

徽商的书画购藏推动了文人画学在徽州的传播,为本地画家的成长营造了浓郁的画学氛围,引领着徽州画坛的风格取向。弘仁绘画风格的形塑过程与徽商关系密切,徽商为弘仁师法古人、追慕倪瓒提供了便利渠道,他们的书斋园林和生活情境启发了弘仁的创作灵感。基于相近的审美观念,徽商成为弘仁作品的主要购藏群体,奠定了弘仁在新安画派中的标杆地位,成为明清之际画商关系的一个特殊案例。

Huizhou merchants’ collection of paintings and calligraphy promoted the spread of literati painting in Huizhou,created an artistic atmosphere for the local painters,and led the trend of Huizhou’s painting.Hongren’s painting style took shape while he was befriended by a group of Huizhou merchants who provided him a favorable environment of studying and imitating ancient,especially Ni Zan’s paintings and an aesthetic life.The major customers of Hongren’s work,Huizhou merchants helped Hongren earn his place in the Xin’an painting school,which was peculiar in terms of the relationship between painters and merchants from Late Ming to Early Qing.
