Comment on Jiangjin County Magistrate Zeng Shouyi in Qianlong Period

"此行绝不以温饱为志,誓勿昧天理良心。"这是清代第一廉吏于成龙在出仕前立下的誓言。中国历史上曾涌现出许多像于成龙一样清廉有为的廉吏。清乾隆时期的江津知县曾受一就是其中一个。他主政江津期间,用种种实际行动践行了"为天地立心,为生民立命,为往圣继绝学,为万世开太平"的使命,深受江津百姓的爱戴。他生前,江津百姓感恩戴德,为其建生祠;他回乡时,江津百姓依依不舍,千里相送;他死后,江津百姓悲痛万分,为其建"清廉祠",亦名"曾公祠"。

“I will never take food and clothing as my goal,and I swear that I will never ignore my conscience.”This is the oath of the most honest official Yu Chenglong in Qing Dynasty before he took office.In Chinese history,there were many honest and promising officials like Yu Chenglong.The Jiangjin county magistrate Zeng Shouyi during Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty was one of them.During his administration in Jiangjin,he took various practical actions to fulfill the mission of“establishing culture for the world,ensuring happiness for people’s life,inheriting achievement of forefathers and keeping peace for long”,which was deeply loved by the people of Jiangjin.Before his death,Jiangjin people were so grateful that they built ancestral hall for him;when he returned to his hometown,Jiangjin people were unwilling to part and saw him off for a thousand miles;after his death,Jiangjin people were so grief-stricken that they built“Honest Temple”for him,also known as“Zeng Gong Temple”.
