Urban development is inseparable from effective planning and layout.The renewal of old city can improve the living environment of urban residents and enhance the ability of urban development.This paper analyzes the principles and problems of urban design from the perspective of old city renewal,and expounds how to improve the effect of urban renewal through scientific urban design approach,so that the city can not only retain its historical features,but also give full play to various functional values of the city,so as to endow the city with life and vitality.
