Woolf,an English writer, believed that if a woman wanted to be truly independent, she must have"a room of her own".In My Name is Red of Pamuk,Shekure is a woman without her own"room".She has been trying to find the possibility of building her own"room",but in the process, she cann't coexist with others’room.Pamuk pays close attention to the differences between women’s"rooms"and women’s living space, and the problem of coexistence between Eastern and Western cultures. And he metaphorize Shekure into Turkey which lost its self-space in the conversition between the East and the West. With the help of the image of Shekure,Pamuk expresses his thoughts on the existence of"space"of different cultures, the dissolution of dualistic opposition between Eastern and Western cultures, and the construction of a"hybrid"ideal world.
