Tylototriton ziegleri is a new member of the family Salamandridae, mainly distributed in northern Vietnam. Its presence was previously reported in Malipo county,Yunnan Province,China, but this record included no detailed description of its morphology.Six Tylototriton sp.Salamanders were recorded in Xinyi National Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province by monitoring the amphibians and reptiles in the Yunkai mountain area. However, the main morphological characteristics of the species in the Tylototriton sp group are very similar,so it is difficult to accurately identify the species in this group based on field observation and morphological features. We reconstructed the phylogenetic tree by maximum likelihood method(ML)using ND 1,ND 2,Cyt b and COI gene sequences from 12 Tylototriton species.Molecular analysis showed that species of the 6 recently discovered animals was Tylototriton ziegleri, closely related to T.asperrimus,T.hainanensis,and T.notialis.Our identifications not only supplemented a new record of the distribution of the salamander in China but also supplemented our knowledge of its morphological characteristics.
