New Evidence on the Start of Yunnan Pu’er Tea as Tribute

云南普洱茶岁贡于清廷,中国茶学界目前均论定为起始于雍正朝,其上限则考订为雍正十二年(1734)。本文根据最新发现的《御赐阅覆进士卷,赐哈密瓜普茶恭纪》诗,考订该诗写作于雍正二年(1724),以新的史料确证,可将普洱茶始贡时间向前推进10年。

Yunnan Pu’er tea was tribute to the Qing court every year.Chinese tea scholars have now concluded that the tea tribute began in the Yongzheng period,and its upper limit was determined to be the 12th year of Yongzheng’s reign(1734).This article is based on the newly discovered poem"Passing Imperial Examination with Hami Melon and Pu’er Tea as Imperial Rewards",which was written in the 2nd year of Yongzheng’s reign(1724),and new historical data confirms that the tribute starting time of Pu’er tea can be advanced 10 years before.
