Yan Fu’s historical view of evolution not only originated from the book Evolution and Ethics by Thomas Henry Huxley,but was also deeply inspired by Chinese traditional concept of change.The view involves the subject,the motivation and the characteristics of the historical evolution,providing theoretical basis for the reformers’political activities that aimed to make the nation strong,and also blazing a trail both in China’s revolution of historiography in the 20th century and in the beginning and development of modern historiography.
