Transaction Costs and the Real Option of Developing Middle Platform

数字化平台的建立有助于企业的数字化转型。中台建设对于平台企业的增长和价值创造具有重要的战略意义。文章基于战略管理与数字经济的视角,揭示了中台建设过程中企业产生的几类主要交易成本,明确了中台建设的实质选择权可能带来的预期收益。通过对比分析中台建设的交易成本与实质选择权,研究亦指出适宜建设中台的平台企业的基本特征,为平台企业的战略决策提供了理论依据和重要指导。

The construction of digital platforms benefits the digitalization of enterprises.The development of Middle Platform shows great strategic significance for the growth and value creation of platform enterprises.From the perspective of strategic management and digital economy,our study sheds light on the main streams of transaction costs incurred by platform enterprises during the construction of Middle Platform,as well as elaborating on the expected revenues generated from the real option of developing Middle Platform.After comparing and analyzing transaction costs and the real option of developing Middle Platform,our study reveals the major characteristics of platform enterprises which are suitable for constructing Middle Platforms.Our study also provides theoretical supports and significant guidance for platform enterprises’strategic choices.
