Vertical Agriculture:Creating an Aasis for the Future City

城市化造成的人地关系紧张,环境的破坏、自然灾害的频发以及人们对于“粮食安全”的担忧等等都使传统农业面临着巨大的挑战。这也正是作为农业创新的垂直农业出现的原因,它为这些问题提供了一个有效的解决方案。几年来垂直农业得到大力推广,垂直农场在世界各地相继建立,尤其是东南亚国家。相比于传统农业,垂直农业可以以更低的资源消耗获得更高的产量;缩短食物供应链,减少食品浪费,保障食品安全;降低农业生产的不确定性,具有可控性、可预测性和可复制性,并且可以和城市景观很好地融合。但是它也存在一些局限;前期资本投入高;需要消耗大量电能;可能存在需求不足和可种植的农产品种类不多。相信随着技术的成熟,垂直农业必将在中国发挥出其优势,融入中国的城市之中,成为农业系统的重要组成部分。

Tensions between human beings and land caused by urbanization,the pollution of environment,the frequency of nature disasters,concerns about food safety and so on, will challenge the traditional agriculture a lot. And that’s why we need the vertical agriculture, an innovation of agriculture, offers a tantalizing response to these problems. Nowadays,vertical agriculture is promoted widely, vertical farms spring up one after one the world over, especially in Asia.Comparing with traditional agriculture, vertical agriculture has its advantages, like: higher yield with less consumption of resources,shorter food supply chain,less food waste,safer food quality,lower uncertainty of agricultural production,high manipulation and reproducibility,and well coexistence with the city. However,it also has limitations,such as much high pre-investment,heavy consumption of electricity,potential insufficiency of demand,and limited varieties can be planted by this technology. Still,we firmly believe that the vertical agriculture will show its matchless advantages,merge well into China’s cities and become an essential part of our agricultural system as the technology getting more mature.
