Building Our New Great Wall--Research on the Developing History of The Great Wall as National Symbol

作为中华民族的象征,长城民族符号的近代建构经历了一个过程。在长城意义的再诠释中,民国初年对于长城文化意义的再认识、20世纪20年代利权运动里国货长城形象的出现、抗日战争中血肉长城概念的产生等最具代表性。随之,长城的精神内涵不断得到充实丰富,逐渐发展出忠诚团结、不惧牺牲等现代爱国主义价值观念,并为各族各界人士所认同;长城的基本形象被持续复制传播,长城慢慢被符号化,其辨识程度也得到显著提升。现代中华民族精神塑造具有丰富的历史文化资源,现代中华民族认同形成于应对民族危机的特殊历史环境中,长城符号形成史恰能反映现代中华民族认同所独有的历史经验与特殊的时代条件,正是在全民族抗战的历史洪流中、在"筑成我们新的长城"的普遍认同中长城成为中华民族的象征符号。

In modern history,it was a gradual process for The Great Wall to be a national symbol.Some typical interpretations about it include its cultural meaning elaborated in the beginning of Republic of China,its image appeared on domestic products in the 1920 s’,the concept of new Great Wall built with flesh and blood during the anti-Japanese war.Later on,the spirit of the Great Wall has been enriching,with emphasizing the modern patriotic values including loyalty,unity,sacrifice and so on,winning extensive recognition.Then the image of the Great Wall had been replicated and spread so widely that it became a symbolic image and identified by more and more people.Based on the rich historical cultural resources and formed in the War of Resistance against Japan,the Great Wall is regarded as a symbol of the Chinese nation.
