Phonetic Study of Hakka Dialect in Maoming Area

茂名地区客家话保留了客家方言的基本语音特点,送气音丰富,古全浊声母字,今逢塞音、塞擦音,不论平仄多读送气清音;古次浊上声字和古全浊上声字,大部分今读阴平。但同时也受强势方言的影响,有不同程度的变异,比如各地都有边擦音■;化州客家话有浊内爆音■、■高州和信宜客家话有韵母y等。这些变异现象在双语区体现得更强,在纯客语区则相对较弱。

Hakka dialect in Maoming retains the basic phonetic characteristics of Hakka dialect:It has rich aspirated sounds;most ancient voiced initials are pronounced aspirated voiceless sounds when they are together with explosives or fricatives.Influenced by strong dialect,Hakka dialect in Maoming shows varying degrees of variation.For example,there is fricative sound ■ in it:Hakka dialect in Huazhou has voiced implosion sounds ■ and ■;and Hakka dialect in Gaozhou and Xinyi has vowel y,etc.These variations,appear obvious in bilingual areas,but less obvious in pure Hakka areas.
