Polishing-Opinion on the Language Beauty of Local Chronicles

采用语体文记述体,已成为修志界共识。记述离不开语言,语言当追求美,方志语言亦不例外。新方志在语言上有不尽人意处,如过于拘泥于记述体,忽视了志书的语言美,削弱了志书的可读性。有人说方志是资料性著作,不必追求语言美,此认识谬矣。语言美实际上一直是方志追求的目标,是对修志的要求。方志语言求美应持一明确目标:简练简洁之美、朴实平实之美、精论巧论之美等。尤其是在当前许多人误解方志没有多少文化的情况下,更应坚持。

It has become a consensus in the field to adopt the vernacular writing style in compiling local chronicles.Records and narration cannot be separated from language. We should pursue the beauty of language,and local chronicle language should be no exception. The new local chronicles are less than satisfactory in terms of language,such as being too rigid in the narrative style,ignoring the language beauty of the local chronicles,and weakening the readability of the local chronicles. Some people argue that local chronicles are informative works and do not need to pursue the beauty of language.This idea is unacceptable. In fact,the beauty of language has always been the goal of local chronicles and the requirement in compiling local chronicles. There must be a defined objective to this: the beauty of conciseness,the beauty of modesty,and the beauty of elaboration. We should hold on to this,especially in the current situation when many people misunderstand that the local chronicles are less cultured.
