从“出走”到“回归”——吴汝纶旅日信札解读及其“中体西用”论辨析

伴随晚清政治的动荡,西学东渐,如何看待中西文化冲突成为士大夫无可回避的问题。在“周孔遗业,几成绝响”的忧虑下,吴汝纶远赴日本,“仰求师法”以期“取长补短”。从“新旧二学,恐难两存”,到“异国长技,但可相资益,本源之教,尚在己邦”,可看出吴汝纶所面对的冲突与调和之策。解读吴汝纶旅日期间的信札,可以体会其走出国门后文化上的某些“回归”。

With the political turmoil of the late Qing Dynasty,the western theory gradually influenced China,and how to view the cultural conflicts between China and the West has become an unavoidable issue for scholar officials.In the“Duke of Zhou and Confucius's legacy,almost into the great worry”,Wu Rulun went to Japan to seek a solution to the problem and hoped to learn from each other.From the“Old and new learning are difficult to coexist”,to“Foreign countries have strong skills,but they can benefit from each other.The original teaching is still in our own country”,which reflected the conflicts that Wu Rulun faced and his reconciliation strategy.Reading Wu Rulun's letter during his travel period,we can appreciate some of the cultural“return”after he went abroad.
