The Publishing Situation;Characteristics and Influence of Traditional Chinese Medicine Periodicals in the Late Qing Dynasty

晚清时期,一些中医界人士和社团相继创办多种中医期刊,中医期刊、医学社团、医生群体三者共融共生,大多以发扬中医、保存国粹、熔铸中外、振兴医学为主要宗旨。采取灵活开放的办刊模式,拥有浓厚的出版经营意识和较为广泛的发行网络,在栏目设置、刊载内容、出版发行等方面已具有近代期刊的基本特征。由于尚属初创,地域和时间分布极不均衡,且总量不多,寿命普遍较短,能产生较大影响的全国性中医期刊屈指可数。晚清中医期刊的出现,不仅对中国医学事业的转型发展起到了积极的推动作用,且从多个方面促进了近代中医期刊出版市场的基本形成。

In the late Qing Dynasty,many Chinese medical periodicals appeared,and the Chinese medical periodicals coexisted with the medical community and the doctor group.The main purpose was to promote traditional Chinese medicine,preserve national culture,and integrate Chinese and Western cultures.Having adopted a flexible and open mode of running a journal,these periodicals had a strong sense of publishing operations and a wide distribution network.It had already possessed the basic characteristics of modern periodicals in terms of column setting,content,and publication.But because it was still a start-up,the geographical and time distribution was extremely uneven.The total number of publications was not large,and the life span was generally short.Only a few periodicals could have a great impact.The emergence of TCM periodicals in the late Qing Dynasty not only played a positive role in the transformation and development of China’s medical cause,but also promoted the basic formation of the modern TCM periodical publishing market in many aspects.
