Being characteristic with diverse folk cultures,the folktales of Chen Xiguai,widely circulated in the east of Hubei Province,have captivated the masses to participate in creating,disseminating and inheriting the folktales.As a branch of folk literature deeply rooted in the folk,Chen Xiguai’s folktales,demonstrate the pursuit of freedom,equality,democracy,liberation and human dignity of the masses,as well as their revolutionary spirit of resisting power and slavery,oppression and exploitation,bullying and insult.Chen Xiguai’s folktales,with the inherent connotation of“affinity to the people”,have crystallized as a kind of ideological complex,which reflects the life panorama and folk wisdom of folk society in the east of Hubei Province.
