Michael Wilding, the Australian“new novel”leader, does not belong to the traditional school of Henry Lawson, nor to the school of Patrick White, but more like a hybrid“third space”.Combi⁃ning postmodernism and Marxism,Michael Wilding's view of literature brings rich connotation to his works, but also at the same time puts him in an awkward position in literature history. The coexis⁃tence of the two conflicting doctrines, the spiritual core of Marxism wrapped under the surface of postmodern narrative reveal Michael Wilding's humanistic care, which is determined by his special life experience and the collective trauma of Australian society after World WarⅡ.
