Chekhov’s first play Platonov continues the dramatic tradition of Turgenev and Ostrovsky.It transforms the playwright’s personal subconscious impulse into the conflict between the protagonist and the system.With an objective and calm style,it shows the protagonist Platonov’s complex conflicts of lust and conscience,which initially establishes the aesthetic pursuit of"polyphonic drama".
