王元化先生提出的“有思想的学术和有学术的思想”,背后既有变幻莫测的时代风云,也有个人上下求索的精神印记。这种学术趣味,更进一步追究,乃是兼及通人与专家、思辨与考据,以及乾嘉学风与魏晋玄言。只不过,所谓“魏晋风度”,学问及言辞之外,还包含极为难得的独立人格。王瑶与王元化,都是与时代风气密切相关的人物——对于20世纪90年代的上海乃至全国文化界来说,王元化更是成为某种精神符号。在一个专业化时代,有学问不容易,学问好且有气象,则尤为难得。两位王先生之心仪魏晋,学问之外,也包含某种精神寄托。
