Jeanette Winterson is a creative contemporary British female writer. Her creation has obvious ethical connotations. This paper uses the method of literary ethical criticism to explore family ethical choice on Jeanette Winterson and her novels with the combination of Jeanette Winterson’s unique adopted identity. Firstly, the paper intends to explore the pain of adopted children caused by foster family and uncertain identity through the analysis of Jeanette Winterson’s birth and upbringing background, deserted and adopted orphans in her novels. Secondly, the paper analyzes the broken relationships and missing obligation of the adopted child in the foster family, all of which leads to the survival dilemma of the adopted child and the fear and disappointment of the foster family. Finally, Jeanette Winterson expresses her extreme dissatisfaction with the inter-generational ethics filled with patriarchal hegemony and an attempt to destroy the patriarchal hegemony and rebuild family democracy through the novels, which highlights Jeanette Winterson’s ethical choice in the dilemma of family ethics.
