艾青是抗战时期中国优秀的诗人。桂林时期的艾青写了许多优秀的诗歌,他主持《广西日报·南方》副刊,发表了大量当时中国优秀诗人作品,是艾青将桂林引进了新诗时代。同时,也是桂林时期,艾青诗歌从诗坛走向了大众。艾青在桂林创作的《吹号者》《他死在第二次》是其整个诗歌创作生涯的代表作,《诗论》是其诗歌理论写作中唯一的系统论著,这三部作品都是中国现代文学史上的经典作品。

Ai Qing was one of the most prominet poets in China during the Anti-Japanese War.During the period he stayed in Guilin,Ai Qing wrote many excellent poems.Presided over the“Guangxi Daily·Nanfang”,Ai Qing published a large number of outstanding poems created by the most excellent poets at that time.It was Ai Qing who introduced Guilin into the new poetry era.At the same time,during the Guilin period,Ai Qing’s poems moved from the poetry circle to the masses.The Trumpeter and He Died for the Second Time created in Guilin are Ai Qing’s masterpieces in his entire poetry creation career,and On Poetry is the only systematic work about poetic theory.These three works have been regarded as classics in the history of modern Chinese literature.
