Defining the direction of development is a century-old plan for the reform of Chinese education. Modern Chinese education must adhere to nationalization as the basis and scientification as the guidance, combining nationalization and scientization, and the effective traditional experience of ancient and modern China and the outside world with efficiency-oriented scientific methods, thus to create a new system of modern Chinese education and Chinese textbooks with Chinese characteristics. Getting rid of the shadow of westernization is a fundamental strategy for the reform of Chinese education;strengthening cultural self-confidence is a firm belief of the reform of Chinese education;recovering Chinese characteristics is the main goal of the reform of Chinese education;the overall textbook reform is the central link of the reform of Chinese education;making scientific experiments is the only way of the reform of Chinese education;improving teachers’ competency is the decisive factor of the reform of Chinese education;and strengthening unified leadership is the fundamental guarantee of the reform of Chinese education.
