A View from the Bridge, written by the best-known American dramatist Arthur Miller in 1955,shows his useful ethical exploration of living conditions of immigrants in 1930s.The play, full of true humanity, demonstrates Miller's attempts to produce rich ethical enlightenment and moral thought in his"Social Drama",and displays his rebuke and helplessness to inherent diseases in the society at that time.Based on ethical literary criticism and the relevant theories from Confucianism, this paper examines protagonist Eddie's tragic significance in light of identity, juggled wills and trade-off between morality and desire. It not only unveils the ethical implication of this play more deeply, but also develops a new method in the study or the research of the"Social Drama".
