Postmodern Ethical Deconstruction in Alice Walker’s The Color Purple

美国后现代主义小说家艾丽斯·沃克的代表作《紫颜色》以其深刻的思想性与精湛的艺术性,表现了一位黑人女性作家对自我性别与种族身份的多重探索,批判了性别歧视、种族歧视以及人类对大自然的破坏,反对男性中心主义、白人至上主义与人类中心主义。《紫颜色》呼吁重建主体与他者之间的道德关系,建构男性与女性相互尊重、白人与黑人地位平等、人与自然和谐共处的互动模式。《紫颜色》蕴含的后现代伦理思想打破了自我与他者之间由来已久的二元对立状态,对当下后工业化社会具有借鉴意义。

Postmodern Western ethics deconstructs and criticizes modernity and modern Western ethics,proposes abolishing modernity’s maintaining of authority,center and rank,and emphasizes acknowledging differences,respecting the Other,advocating pluralism and containment,and taking on an absolute responsibility for the Other.In her novel,The Color Purple,Alice Walker,the American postmodern novelist,criticizes gender and racial inequality as well as the over-exploitation to nature with an attempt to reconstruct the moral relationship between self and the Other,namely,the mutual respect between man and woman,the equal status of the white and the colored,the harmonious interaction between human and nature.This overturns the long-standing duality of self and the Other,shedding light to people’s code of conduct in the current post-industrial society.
