摘要
本研究从认知视角出发,基于语料库对英汉"深/浅"空间隐喻进行了比较分析。研究表明:1)英汉"深/浅"空间概念的隐喻拓展路径高度一致,即均可通过"理解程度"、"感官"、"情感"、"评价"、"时间"和"力量强度"这六个靶域向外拓展;2)依频率分布和拓展内容,汉语"深/浅"和英语"deep/shallow"在隐喻的语言表征层面存在由认知偏好、文化模型和体验角度因素所带来的差异性。本研究在一定程度上证明了英汉空间隐喻普遍性与文化差异性理论框架的合理性,同时也为今后英汉隐喻比较研究提供了基于语料库的可操作分析模式。
This paper presents a corpus-based comparative analysis of"deep/shallow"spatial metaphors in English and Chinese,exploring the universality and cultural differences behind them from a cognitive perspective.A similarity of metaphoric extension is found to a large extent between English and Chinese use of"deep"and"shallow",by which six target domains of comprehension,sense,emotion,appraisal,time and strength are attained in the extension.However,the frequency and content of the extensions demonstrate that there are striking differences in linguistic representations of the metaphors due to cognitive preference,cultural stereotype and individual experience.This study supports the theoretical framework of universality and cultural differences of spatial metaphors in English and Chinese,and offers analytical implications for future corpus-based research in the domain.
