Shanghai Songjiang Tram Demonstration Line is the tram project first adopting steel wheel running on steel rail in Shanghai. In its design process, the innovation and optimization were carried out according to the project’s own characteristics while the advanced experience in other cities was absorbed. The design features and innovation points of the project are introduced. And the innovative technologies are analyzed including the network operation advantages, subgrade settlement reduction by the integrated structure of pile and slab, the first tram curve swivel bridge in China and the reconstruction of uncompleted buildings into depot, which can provide replicable and popularized experience for similar projects.
