Communicate with Past Scholars and Improve Academic Standards

评估同时代的学问,除了眼光向外的横向比较,应该更多地纵向关注与前贤对话的能力。大浪淘沙留下来的高明,历经时间的检验,而一般所要接轨的国际或面向世界的前沿,就中国研究而言其实大都处于边缘的位置。治中国学问,应当一方面吸收输入外来之学说,一方面不忘本来民族之地位,从自国自心发出来,细心体会中国史籍的本意,少以西方观念作比附,既具有统系,又不涉傅会,真正有所创获,才能居最高之地位,不至于时过境迁,即归于歇绝。如此,则一时代的学术标高可以得到有效提升,进而摆脱低谷洼地的尴尬。

To evaluate contemporary academic achievements,the ability of communicating with past scholars is more significant than the superiority to contemporary colleagues.The works that are handed down from generation to generation have stood the test of time,while the international academic frontiers of China study are usually marginal.To conduct China study,we should take advantage of external theories on the one hand and maintain our own cultural characteristics on the other hand.As Chinese researchers,we should try to empathize with our past historians and fathom their works,rather than fill Chinese historical materials in western theoretical frame or interpret them by western concepts.Only in this way can we come up with real innovations and lead the academic community of China study.Besides,the academic standards will also be improved effectively.
