The Ideal of Republic and the Enlightenment of New Youth

共和国家理想是《新青年》启蒙思想的基础。国家与国民的密切关系使《新青年》同人意识到要建立理想的共和国家,必须根除封建专制和封建思想,提高国民素质。提高国民素质一方面要求国民身体强健,另一方面则需要重塑国民精神,而国民精神的重塑又是核心。早婚是影响国民身体的最大障碍,家族制度和儒家思想则是其根源,因此,否定儒家思想也就成为必然。在否定儒家思想的基础上,全面学习西方国家,以民主和科学思想替代专制和封建思想就成为重塑国民精神的途径,也是启蒙的主要内容。

The ideal of The Republic is the foundation of the enlightenment thought of "new youth". The close relationship between the state and the people made the new youth realize that in order to build an ideal republic country, we must eradicate feudal autocracy and feudal thought, and improve the quality of the people. On the one hand, to improve the national quality requires the national health;on the other hand, it needs to reshape the national spirit, which is the core. Early marriage is the biggest obstacle affecting the bodies concerned, and the family system and Confucianism are its roots. Therefore, it is inevitable to deny Confucianism. On the basis of negating Confucianism, learning from western countries in an all-round way and replacing autocracy and feudalism with democratic and scientific thoughts has become the way to remodel the national spirit and the main content of enlightenment.
