Chekhov International Theatre Festival is at present one of Russia’s most influential theatre festivals in the world.The Festival was initiated in 1992 by the Theater Guild,which had just left the state system,and has become an important part of Russia’s national cultural strategy.Chekhov Theatre Festival is not only a symbol of Russian national theatre identity,but also a frontier base for the development of international theatre arts.Analyzing its unique development characteristics and clarifying its significance on the international cultural stage will contribute to understanding the process of the revival of Russian theatre today and have important reference for promoting the cultural exchange of Chinese and Russian theatres.
