Emilie du Chatelet provided Voltaire with a comfortably secluded lodge at the time he encounted political troubles. Not only she was the closest friend of Valtaire, but also an important figure for the Enlightment Movement in the 18 th century France. Her translation version of the Philosophi? Naturalis Principia Mathematica in French plays stimulative role in the spread of Newton’s theory of mechanics in the European continent. Inherited Leibniz’s idea about the vis viva she analysed the concept of kinetic energy, and therefore guided later researchers in deep understanding the Law on Conservation of Energy. For nearly 300 years this great learned lady has been hidden in the shadow of Voltaire, while numerous works in literature and art have remodled her real image. It is the time to fairly and completely evaluate Emilie du Chatelet.
