清代湖州诗人严遂成三考

On Huzhou Poet Yan Suicheng in the Qing Dynasty

严遂成是清代乾隆朝湖州著名诗人,诗风兼具“清”与“雄”,与厉鹗、袁枚、钱载、王又曾、吴锡麒并称“浙西六家”。严遂成生于清康熙三十三年(1694),卒于乾隆二十七年(1762)左右。严遂成的家族凤林严氏,为清代湖州的望族。严遂成为严氏第二支第十六世,妻子早逝,有五子二女。他仕途坎坷,两次被举博学鸿词科,皆因故未试。他沉沦下僚,为官清廉有政绩,但受困于无人举荐,历任山西、河北、河南等地的知县,终任云南嵩明、镇雄州知州。

Yan Suicheng was a famous poet in Huzhou in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.His style of poetry was both“Qing”and“Xiong”.Li E,Yuan Mei,Qian Zai,Wang Youzeng and Wu Xiqi and he were called“six masters in Western Zhejiang”.Yan Suicheng was born in 1694 and died around 1762.Yan Suicheng’s family,the Fenglin Yan family,was a prominent family in Huzhou in the Qing Dynasty.Yan Suicheng was the the 16th generation of second branch of Yan family.His wife died early,and he raised five sons and two daughters.His career was rough,and he was twice elected to attend Boxuehongci examination,but he failed to attend for some reason.He was always a petty official.However,he was rectitude and had many political achievements,but no one recommended him.He took officials in Shanxi,Hebei,Henan and other places,and finally became the magistrate of Songming and Zhenxiong in Yunnan.
