Cognitive impairment is a series of clinical manifestations from mild cognitive dysfunction to dementia. Due to the irreversible dysfunction of patients’ cognitive function and self-care ability, it brings a heavy burden to patients, their families and even the aging society. Obesity is one of the important metabolic risk factors of cognitive dysfunction, and leptin is an adipocyte-derived hormone, and its concentration changes are closely related to obesity-related complications such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative diseases. The clinical researchs and mechanisms of leptin in cognitive dysfunction to provide new ideas for the prevention and treatment of cognitive impairment were reviewed.
