This paper introduces the structure and operating principle of the brushless exciter in the large generating unit as well as a case of the earth fault of the winding caused by the metal foreign body in the stator of the brushless exciter.In addition,it analyzes the causes of the fault and the action of the detector of the excitation system as well as putting forward relevant solutions and precautionary measures.
