Cultivating foreign language students in the new era centers on"the fundamental task of fostering virtue and morality in students and serving the state, embodying the nation’s strategies of talent cultivation".It requires special guidance from institutions of higher education to help students form values and critical judgments when facing directly Western culture and ideology. With the notion of"curricula of integrated ideology and politics",this article argues that several essential points should be taken into consideration in order to explore political and ideological contents in various foreign language courses and help students make full sense of the diversity of world civilization while they are growing into morally and ideologically equipped foreign language professionals. It then cites the course of"American Literature"as an example to illustrate how it fulfills the purpose of understanding and critiquing American literature through a critical stance of a Chinese perspective and cultivate in the minds of students values of the Chinese dominant ideology in the new era at Nanjing University.
