The Future of Journalism Studies:Digital Ecology and Global Context——Conversation between Journalism Scholars from China,UK and US

本文是中、英、美三国新闻学学者就"新闻学的未来"议题展开的深度对谈。四位对谈人结合各自的社会语境和学术背景,就新闻学学科发展在当下面临的若干重大问题,包括新闻学学科的合法性、新闻学与其他相关学科的关系、新闻学的制度化与合理化、新闻学研究与社会变迁之间的关系,以及数字时代的新闻学范式革新等,展开了深入的讨论。对谈者在如下几个方面达成共识:新闻学的学术发展需要不断对故步自封的倾向保持反思;中西方新闻学研究传统与路径具有进行建设性对话的巨大潜能;生态性的研究思路是新闻学实现理论突破的关键所在;数字新闻学有可能成为新闻学研究的全球性革新范式。

This article presents an in-depth conversation between four journalism scholars from China,UK and US.The discussants share ideas on several crucial issues in the development of journalism studies,including the legitimacy of journalism as a scholarly field,the relationship between journalism studies and other related disciplines,the institutionalization and rationalization of journalism,the relationship between journalism studies and social development,and the paradigmatic innovation of journalism studies in the digital age.Some consents are formed in above discussions:journalism scholars should keep a critical mind on the complacency of the field,there’s big potential for constructive dialogues between the Chinese and Western traditions and approaches of journalism studies,an ecological turn is key to the theoretical breakthrough of journalism,and it’s possible that digital journalism will become a global new paradigm for journalism studies.
