In light of Bourdieu’s concept of literary field and Wang Dewei’s lyric discourse, the study briefly explores the historical context for the emergence and spread of love letters in the era of China’s Republic and the hierarchical distinction formed in the subfield of love letters.Taking Mao Dun’s translation of Heroides as an example,it points out that Mao Dun’s selection and strategies of translation were greatly influenced by the lyric tradition, market effect, censorship system of the National Government and the symbolic value of love letters.
