Set Mark Freeman's theory on"narrative foreclosure"as a departure, this essay renews the concept through the new definition of"a life state that confines oneself in the stagnant main narrative space, failing to absorb or drive any new plot for narrative progression"and differentiates it into four sub-categories,namely,aging,professional,traumatic and concerned ones.Narrative foreclosure not only occurs to senior people, but also to people of other life phases, leading to the dead ends in life meanings and life evolution. This paper proposes that through narrative interventions, the foreclosurers can be empowered to restart their life button and break its closure through reexperiencing and reinterpretation, and only by this kind of narrative empowerment the balance between narrative stability and openness can be maintained and a life progression of wellness and harmoniousness can be experienced as an ongoing meaningful project.
