This article introduces the action process of the heavy gas protection under no-load closing condition of the 500 kV transformer,the on-site condition and equipment fault information recordings are examined to investigate the cause of event,and finally the exact cause is found,the transformer vibration due to magnetizing inrush current and oil flow surge may have caused false operation of transformer gas protection relay.The paper puts forward specific improvement measures.
