摘要
《儿子与情人》中主人公保罗与母亲之间复杂的感情和与两个女友之间无法完美的爱情是小说的两大主题,保罗无法获得完美的爱情,原因在于不完美的家庭环境造就了他不健全的心理和人格。借助文学伦理学批评方法,作者发现这一切的根源是保罗的母亲莫瑞尔太太违反了伦理秩序,对丈夫充满了鄙视,没有给保罗提供和谐美好的家庭环境。
One theme of“Sons and Lovers”is the complicated emotion between Paul and his mother;another is the imperfection of his love with his two lovers.What lead to his failure in love are his unsound mentality and personality,which come from his unhappy family.Studying the novel by means of ethical literary criticism,the author finds out the reason of Paul’s failure in love is that his mother violates the ethical order,looking down upon her husband,thus creating an unhappy family for the son.
