王际真英译选本与中国现代文学的海外传播

Wang Jizhen’s Collections of English Translations of Modern Chinese Literature and Their Overseas Dissemination

20世纪40年代,王际真先后编译了《阿Q及其他鲁迅小说选》《现代中国小说选》《中国战时小说》三部中国现代文学英译选本,并在美国出版。在中国现代文学的起步阶段,王际真第一时间以文学的方式向西方读者介绍了正处于巨大变革中的中国社会。王际真选本不仅展示了中国现代文学的成就,也几乎奠定了西方对中国现代文学经典的认识与评价基础,为今天中国现代文学的海外传播与接受提供了示范性文本,并从此在海外汉学研究中注入了中国现代文学元素。

In the 1940s,Wang Jizhen edited and published in the United States three anthologies of modern Chinese literature in English,namely Ah Q and Others:Selected Stories of Lusin(1941),Contemporary Chinese Stories(1944)and Stories of China at War(1947).During the beginnings of modern Chinese literature,he introduced for the first time Chinese literature to the Western readers.Wang Jizhen not only showed the achievements of modern Chinese literature,but also laid the basis for the Western understanding of the classics of modern Chinese literature and its evaluation,therefore providing a representative text for the overseas dissemination of modern Chinese literature,and added new elements into the studies of international Sinology.
