Research on English Translation of City Public Signs Based on Skopos Theory

随着国际化不断深入,公示语双语化已经成为一种趋势。标识语常被称为“城市的名片”,其英语翻译质量的好坏,直接影响着这个城市或地区的对外形象。该文首先概述了目的论的理论内涵,然后深入探索了公示语英译失误问题,最后提出了标识语英文翻译可采用的一些有效的翻译方法。

With the deepening of internationalization,bilingualization of public signs has become a trend.Public signs are often called“business cards of the city”.The quality of English translations of public signs directly affects the external image of the city or region.First,this paper gives a theoretical overview of Skopos theory.Then,it deeply explores the problem of errors in the English translation of public signs.Finally,it puts forward some effective translation methods that can be used in the English translation of public signs.
