张乃燕:酷爱旅游且预言二战的公使

Zhang Naiyan, a Tourism-loving Diplomat Who Predicted World War Ⅱ

张乃燕是民国年间的外交官,但目前国内研究对其担任外交官期间的事务很少涉及。实际上,张乃燕曾经在欧洲留学获得化学博士学位,毕业后回国担任数所著名高校化学教授,同时也担任过中央大学校长等职务。1933年张乃燕担任驻比利时公使,通过旅游和考察实业,并且借助自身学术积累、个人阅历以及思考,对当时国际形势与二战爆发作出了较为准确的判断。抗战开始后,张乃燕在家做寓公,也对民国实业进行了投资,作为教育家,张乃燕还与社会名流过往甚密,张乃燕一生也撰写了很多学术著作,张乃燕的一生也是当时民国年间社会人物的一个缩影。

Zhang Naiyan was a diplomat during the period of the Republic of China. At present, the domestic research rarely involves his affairs during the period of his serving as a diplomat. In fact, Zhang Naiyan once studied in Europe and got a doctor’s degree in chemistry, and returned to China after graduation as a chemistry professor in several famous universities as well as the principal of Central University. In 1933, Zhang Naiyan served as envoy in Belgium. He made an accurate judgment on the outbreak of World War Ⅱ through tourism, investigation of industry, and by virtue of his own academic accumulation, personal experience and thinking. After the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhang Naiyan also invested in the industry of the Republic of China when he was idle at home making a living by renting houses. As an educator, Zhang Naiyan had a close relationship with celebrities. He wrote a lot of academic works. Zhang Naiyan’s life was a miniature of the social figures in the period of the Republic of China.
