CURA was designed and realised at the startof the coronavirus outbreak in Europe, and iscurrently expanding internationally. The acronymfor "Connected Units for Respiratory Ailments"and also "Cure" in Latin, CURA is a quick-to-deploysolution to expand emergency facilities and easesthe pressure on healthcare systems treating patientsinfected by coronavirus.It can be mounted as fast asa hospital tent,and is as safe as a regular isolationward to work in. Each unit is hosted in a 20-foot(ca.6-metre) intermodal container, repurposedwith biocontainment equipment. An extractor creates indoor negative pressure, complying withthe standards of Airborne Infection Isolation Rooms(AIIRs).The pod contains all the medical equipmentneeded for two ICU patients, including ventilatorsand monitors as well as intravenous fluid stands andsyringe drivers.
