Post-war Europe ushered in an era of rapid mechanical development, and people hated to always imitate Le Corbusier and Mies and began to look to other disciplines for methods. The Smithsons promoted The New Brutalism movement in England, arguing that architecture and the city were not gestalt, but constantly growing and reproducing the process of construction, with a central expression of reverence for materials. At the same time, "Team x" appeared, drawing lessons from ecology, pushing architecture towards thinking of human living environment, and creating cohesion and sense of belonging.
