Glass has greatly changed people’s way of seeing the world. This study,by tracing the historical changes of the symbolic meanings of glass as a literary motif, aims at defining the postmodernist features of glass, arguing that glass plays a revolutionary role in the construction of modern space, and that at the same time it challenges any personal space.Glass has significantly enriched the post-modernists’ ways of creation, due to its fragility, transparency and other optical properties,as well as its incongruity with experience, helping to present a fragile, chaotic, fragmented and unrecognizable world.Glass is resistant to any traces, symbolizing that postmodernist experience is easily erased, and what is left over is only an empty, fragmented, and dissolved identity.
